Rock scrambling is the natural and adventurous extension to hill walking. It’s that blurred middle ground between walking and climbing that can be enjoyed by anyone who is aerobically fit and likes an exciting challenge.
Scrambling with a mountaineering instructor will allow the student to see best practice when looking after themselves and a partner on steep ground. You’ll be introduced to a number of skills and techniques used on more difficult scrambles; placing rock protection, constructing belays, short roping, direct and indirect belay techniques, plus retreating / abseiling.
If you’re looking for a classic scrambling experience, or want to learn rope techniques required for operating independently on harder terrain, I provide both guiding and one / two day courses in becoming self-sufficient on grade 2-3 ground.
